Mom’s Party Mix

Party Mix

It’s finally almost fall – the time of year when I’m especially nostalgic for familiar flavors. This weekend, I’m going to kick things off with two of my favorite things from the 80s: my mom’s party mix recipe and The Goonies


  • 12 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned salt (or garlic salt)
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 6 cups Wheat Chex
  • 6 cups Corn Chex
  • 6 cups Cheerios*
  • 4 cups pretzel sticks
  • 1 can peanuts (12 ounces)


Heat the oven to 250 degrees. Place butter in a roasting pan and melt it in the oven while it preheats. Once the butter is melted, stir in Worcestershire sauce, salt, and garlic powder, doing your best to avoid any clumps. Then, gradually stir in the remaining ingredients until evenly coated. Bake for two hours, stirring every 15 minutes.

Once cooled, the party mix can be stored in roughly three one-gallon freezer bags. However, it doesn’t really last very long in our house!

Note: Yelling out “Heyyyy youuu guyyyyys!” when the mix is ready is optional, but highly encouraged.

*Traditional versions of this recipe use Rice Chex, I know, but we were never really fans of Rice Chex in our family because the cereal is just a little too bland. The Cheerios here add a different texture and become tiny flavor bombs once they’ve been roasted.
